A 34-year-old Tarrytown man will be placed on the New York Sex Offender Registry after being convicted in March of two counts of using social media to send lewd photos to lure a 14-year-old girl.
Roshan Samuel, of Dunnings Drive, was sentenced on April 20 to five months’ shock probation in Westchester County Jail in Valhalla, followed by four years’ probation under sex offender conditions, after his conviction by a jury of disseminating indecent material to minors in the first degree, a Class D felony.
According to Acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty, between October 21 and October 23, 2014 Samuel engaged in conversations of a sexual nature with a teenager at Alexander Hamilton High School in Elmsford, believing she was 16 years old. The conversations were in the form of text message and voice calls through a social media application.
On October 21, 2014, at about 2:30 p.m., the female was observed on video entering and exiting a vehicle driven by Samuel in the parking lot of the high school. Samuel later sent photographs of himself with explicit messages to the teen.
School officials were notified by the victim’s mother about the social media contacts and they were able to provide police with surveillance video of the parking lot encounter. Samuel was arrested on October 30, 2014 by the Elmsford Police Department.
