Paul Kazmierczak, a resident of Irvington, NY, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Monday, February 2, 2026, at the age of 78.
Paul is survived by Maren, his wife of 52 years; his children, Anthony and Craig; his daughters-in-law Erin and Kelly; his grandchildren Erin, Kevin, Connor, and Christian; and his three sisters, Christine Kret, Karen Kurlya, and Mary Ann Wirtz. He is predeceased by his parents, Chester and Laura.
Paul was born on November 5, 1947, in the town of Cheektowaga, NY, a suburb of Buffalo. He graduated from Gannon University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Economics. First in his family to attend College, Paul worked several jobs, was a four-year starter on Gannon’s varsity baseball team and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. Following his time at Gannon, Paul entered the U.S. Army and served two years before attending graduate school to pursue an MBA in Finance at Tulane University.
It’s at Tulane where Paul met the love of his life, Maren, a grad-student herself and writer for the Times Picayune. They were introduced on a blind date, and like something right out of the Great American Song book, it was love at first sight. Paul and Maren were married on August 18, 1973, in Cincinnati, OH. Upon graduation, Paul took a job with Citibank in the International Banking Division. His first assignment was in Seoul, South Korea where their first son, Anthony was born. Two years later, they moved to Tokyo, Japan where their second son Craig entered the world. These first five years in Asia instilled in both Paul and Maren a love of travel — the kind of travel where you burrow into a country and get to know the people. Paul was very much a people person. Paul and his family moved to Irvington, NY in 1978, where he resided for the remainder of his life.
His work in the financial services industry with subsequent firms such as Drexel Burnham and Prudential Securities, took him to several countries, from Saudi Arabia to Singapore. Maren accompanied him on many of these trips, and even got to attend some of Paul’s conferences. While at one event in Barcelona, Paul suggested to Maren, a journalist, that she start her own gathering for writers and editors, which she did with Paul’s guidance and support. The company, called Travel Classics, of which Paul was so much an important part, is thriving today.
Paul was a devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather, a selfless, compassionate and honest man, who loved a good joke and good glass of Irish whiskey. He was an affable man, with a knack to strike up a conversation with anyone. From the coastline of Connemara, Ireland to the deep blue waters of Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, Paul loved travelling the world alongside Maren, always carrying her bags. He also thoroughly enjoyed golf and playing softball with his sons, which he managed to do until his final days. Paul absolutely adored his four grandchildren, attending so many concerts, baseball and hockey games over the years, often the loudest one applauding and chatting up everyone in the stands.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all blessed to know him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s name to the Irvington Presbyterian Church, 25 North Broadway, Irvington, NY 10533.
