Irvington Stage Door Welcomes Original Scripts from Playwrights

Last year, the Irvington Town Hall Theater (ITHT) introduced two new series: Irvington Stage Door, which presents readings of original works in progress followed by “talkbacks” between the creative team and audience, and Cabaret on the Hudson, which brings professional Cabaret artists from the New York City region to the Irvington stage. Both series will return this fall, each featuring three events throughout the 2015-2016 season.

Irvington Stage Door will be overseen by ITHT commissioner Beth Ryan; and the series will now offer the chance for local playwrights to cast their original works, see and hear them read aloud in front of an audience, and get feedback in a Q&A afterwards with the audience.

The readings are scheduled for October, January, and April– with the April season finale event highlighting the work of a local high school writer. Ryan’s Stage Door Reading Committee will carefully review all of the submissions to decide which playwrights will have their works read for this series. The Reading Committee invites local playwrights to submit a completed play that they would like considered for the series. “The sooner we get scripts in hand this summer, the better,” Ryan explained. “We want to be able to choose our October play by summer’s end in order to give the playwright time to find their cast, rehearse it a few times, and then bring it to the Stage Door.”

“I am very excited to see this series continue,” said Theater Manager, Greg Allen. “We started with a diverse line-up of writers this past season, and I can’t wait to see what the committee discovers this year.”
