LATIMER FINDS CONTINUED COVID DECLINE “ENCOURAGING”

• Bookmarks: 31

May 1, 2020

There were, as of the beginning of May, 6,756 active cases of the virus, County Executive George Latimer reported on Friday.

A month ago, that number was over 8,000. Since the first case of COVID-19 in February, the county has had 29,323 cases. Nearly 100,000 have been tested. One thousand and forty-nine Westchester residents have died since the outset, making the county one of the worst hot spots in the nation. It has since been surpassed by both Nassau and Suffolk Counties on Long Island.

The numbers we’ve seen continue to show encouraging trends in Westchester,” Latimer told a Friday Zoom briefing, “and the statewide analysis is equally encouraging.”
