As County Executive George Latimer said when the Complete Count initiative started on April 1st, “The mission is very simple – we want to make sure that if you reside in Westchester County that you are counted.”
Said another way, every individual who is not counted results in a net loss of $2,500 per person in federal aid. With the census calculated only every ten years, any Westchester resident who does not fill out the census forms will deny his/her community ten times that amount, or $25,000 in federal funding for much-needed municipal, infrastructure and public school-related needs. In addition, Congressional representation is determined by the number of residents in an election district, meaning that under-reporting population means a loss of representation in Congress. Here is the percentage of respondents as of July 1st,–along with the names and contact information of the representative for each village:
Sleepy Hollow: 59.1%; Diana Loja -dloja@sleepyhollowny.org
Tarrytown: 67.4%; Diana Loja – dloja@sleepyhollowny.org
Irvington: 71.8%: (Greenburgh) Garrett Duquesne -GDuquesne@greenburghny.com
Dobbs Ferry: 68.4%; Liz Dreaper – ldreaper@dobbsferry.com
