To the Editor:
It is with sadness that we must announce that F.I.S.H. (“Friends in Service Helping”) will be suspending service on July 1st.
This all-volunteer community service has afforded Hastings’ senior citizens with free rides to medical appointments for over fifty years. We have been able to schedule 30-40 rides each month in recent years and are keenly aware that both riders and drivers have benefited from the friendly neighborly interactions the program provides.
Unfortunately, concerns about insurance liability have caused us to step back from managing the program.
We hope that a way forward can be found to reinstate the F.I.S.H. program with proper insurance in place.
In the meantime, here are a two alternative programs for riders in need: Paratransit (https://transportation.westchestercountyny.gov) or TRA (Hello @my-TRA.org)
