At approximately 11:29 a.m. today, while school was in session, the Irvington Police Department received a report from school administration that a student may have been in possession of a firearm on school grounds. School administrators immediately implemented lockdown procedures and provided responding officers with the student’s location.
Officers responded to the school without delay, coordinated with school staff, and made contact with the 14-year-old student. During the investigation, officers recovered a black BB gun that was highly realistic in appearance and closely resembled an actual firearm. A school administrator and a staff member had isolated the student and taken the BB gun from him prior to police arrival. The quick and courageous actions of the school staff quickly brought a potentially dangerous situation to an end.
No threats were made by the student at any time during the incident. The situation was quickly contained, and there is no current threat to the school community.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Yours in service,
