April 25, 2023

Tom always looked out for his siblings. He emphasized to own up to your mistakes and to not let anyone make you feel inferior. Tom never had children of his own and looked upon his 8 nieces and nephews as his children. Tommy Willmott was a lifelong resident of North Tarrytown and Tarrytown. He was a 1964 graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School, where he was a Westchester All County Soccer Goalkeeperhis junior (1962) and senior (1963) years. He received the Westchester Con Edison Athlete of the Week Award for soccer in the Fall of 1963. That same year, Sleepy Hollow HS won the Section I Class A Soccer title vs Scarsdale, and was also instrumental in his father, Coach Ray Willmott, being named Westchester County Soccer Coach of the Year (1963). Tom was also a contributing player for the 1963-64 Sleepy Hollow Section I Class A Champion Basketball team. He also played second base for the Varsity Baseball team for 3 years. Those teams were SWIAC league champions with the help of Tom’s bat. Tommy went on to be a Fairfield University Soccer Goalkeeper for four years. Tommy recently commented that living in the Van Tassel Apartments, being next to the old North Tarrytown High School gym, and school yard, and a short walk to the old “Marsh” baseball fields and sandbank were Utopia for meeting and playing with friends while growing up. Another asset that Tom mentioned was being fortunate enough to have his father, Ray Willmott, at North Tarrytown HS and later Sleepy Hollow HS. It gave Tommy the opportunity to be a bat boy and ball boy during those youthful years and later have him as his coach. During this time, he learned many valuable lessons from his Dad, whom he so well respected. Tommy was a foreman for the Coffin Tree Service and long time bar tender at The Setback Inn in Tarrytown. Tommy’s other interests included golfing, fishing, knife making, kayaking, hiking and riding his motorcycle. Tommy was a very creative and artistic craftsman, using glass and paint chips to fashion jewelry and other decorative items. He also spent time socializing with his friends at the Washington Irving Boat Club and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, of which he was a member. He loved his three dogs, Sam, Daisy, and Raven, all of which predeceased him. Tommy was the son of Raymond and Jane (Fisher) Willmott, who predeceased him. He is survived by his three siblings, Kathi (Mark) Susi, Tim (Marcia) Willmott, and Donny (Sandy) Willmott. There are 8 nieces and nephews surviving that will dearly miss their Uncle T. There will be a celebration of Life for Tommy Willmott, Saturday, May 13, 2023 at 12:30 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Club. A buffet will be provided. Anyone wishing to contribute to a memorial in Tommy’s name may do so by making a donation to: SNARR Northeast Special Needs Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation PO Box 307 White Plains, NY 10602 snarrnortheast.org c/o Courtney Belles. Location: 46 Sodom Rd., Brewster, NY 10509
