With the start of the giving season, The Children’s Village has launched its annual Feeding Families Thanksgiving Drive to collect funds and non-perishable food items to distribute to 1,500 young people and families to brighten their holidays this season.
The initiative, which includes multiple ways for community members to get involved and make a meaningful impact – by contributing online, donating items in person, or even hosting food and canned food drives to collect goods – ends on November 25.
“Thanksgiving is a time for togetherness and reflection, but for many families, it can be a time of stress and hardship,” said Jamila Baucom-Rosal, Vice President for Advancement at The Children’s Village. “Our goal is to alleviate some of that pressure by ensuring families can gather over a warm, hearty meal. With the generosity of our supporters, we’re able to provide more than just food—we’re providing peace of mind during a difficult time of year.”
The Children’s Village is collecting non-perishable items such as boxed stuffed mix, instant mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, dry macaroni, canned yams, canned cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, cornbread mix, canned pumpkin, canned pie filling, pie crust mix, salt and pepper, and other spices.
There are three ways people can participate:
Host a Food Drive: Encourage your friends, family, or coworkers to participate by organizing a food or canned goods drive. The Children’s Village will provide support every step of the way to ensure success.
Donate Financially: Financial contributions allow the nonprofit to purchase gift cards and nonperishable items in bulk. Visit The Children’s Village’s website at https://childrensvillage.org/turkeydrive/ to contribute:
- A donation of $25 provides a gift card for a turkey for a family of four
- A donation of $50 provides side dishes for a family of four
- A donation of $75 provides a full Thanksgiving meal for a family of four
Shop Our Amazon Registry: To purchase food items directly from the organization’s curated list, visit https://www.amazon.com/registries/gl/guest-view/VOP9F4OYLWD7.
Anyone who wishes to donate items directly can drop them off The Children’s Village’s main campus, located at 1 Echo Hill, Dobbs Ferry, NY 10522.
“The holiday season can be challenging for families facing economic struggles. We want to help create lasting memories for these families by ensuring they have the food they need to celebrate together,” said Leydi Rodriguez, Director of Community Engagement at The Children’s Village. “Every contribution—whether food or financial—brings us closer to reaching the 1,500 families we’ve committed to helping this year.”
The week before Thanksgiving, The Children’s Village will distribute the food and $25 gift card to families identified by program managers who are both in residential and community programs.
Additionally, The Children’s Village has partnered with the KULU Foundation to further expand its impact. On November 22, the KULU Foundation will host a special giveaway event, distributing 500 turkeys to young people and families in Harlem.
“Partnering with The Children’s Village aligns perfectly with our mission to give back to communities in need,” said Matt Staubi, Co-founder of the KULU Foundation. “We believe in the power of community, and together we are making sure families have the resources they need to gather and celebrate during the holidays.”
