A family-friendly restaurant known for its tavern-style pizza recently opened its first location in Westchester County in the Crossroads Shopping Center on Tarrytown Road in Greenburgh.
A joyful ribbon cutting ceremony for Riko’s Pizza was held Dec. 10 with Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner joining franchise owner Rico Imbrogno and restaurant owner Spencer Thune.
“This is a really good addition to the town,” Feiner said. “I’m sure I’ll add a lot of weight. We want it to be the most successful business in Westchester County.”
Founded in 2011 in Stamford, CT, Riko’s Pizza currently has 12 other eateries in Connecticut, Florida, North Carolina, and Long Island and is planning to open two other restaurants in Larchmont and Yonkers next year.
Dating back to the 1930s and 1940s, tavern-style pizza was popular in pubs and cities like New York and Chicago. Known as “bar pies,” Riko’s perfected the recipe and now features it on its menu. The unique pizzas are 13 inches with ultra-thin crust cut into six slices.
Riko’s also offers oven roasted wings, sliders, made-to-order salads, tasty appetizers and scrumptious desserts.
“We’re so excited to be here,” Imbrogno said. “The bar is to compliment what we do. We’re looking forward to a lot of good years.”
Thune said the storefront in the shopping center was appealing for Riko’s to make its local debut because of its visibility from busy Tarrytown Road.
“We have a great menu where you can take the family and not spend an arm and a leg,” Thune said.
Riko’s Pizza is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
