Several hundred adults and youngsters braved snow, slush and slippery surfaces Sunday morning to participate in the 13th Annual Dobbs Ferry Holiday Hustle 5K & Kids Reindeer Fun Run 1K.
The overnight snowstorm that blanked the area provided a winter wonderland backdrop for the fun-filled event, which benefits the Dobbs Ferry Youth Services Council (YSC) and the Dobbs Ferry Police Benevolent Association (PBA). The Misfits from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was the theme of this year’s hustle.

Bundled up participants, for the most part, started in the parking lot of Mercy University and ended on Main St., where hot chocolate and cookies were waiting for everyone who crossed the finish line. A festive shirt and medals were also provided.
Dobbs Ferry Mayor Christy Knell and former Sleepy Hollow Mayor Martin Rutyna were on hand supporting the event.
The Dobbs Ferry YSC plays an essential role in the community by addressing the needs of local youth, fostering leadership, and promoting collaboration between young people and adults. The council includes community leaders, parent volunteers and students from local schools like Dobbs Ferry High School, The Masters School, and Mercy College.
A significant part of YSC’s work is supported by the Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Program, which funds local coalitions to reduce substance use among young people.
The Dobbs Ferry Police Association is a non-profit organization comprised of 26 police officers who have sworn to protect and serve the community of Dobbs Ferry.
Since its inception, the Association has served as a benevolent organization for its members and has endeavored to be a support group for community programs and activities. Through the years, donations have enabled the Association to support local programs such as The Dobbs Ferry Football Touchdown Club, two scholarships to Dobbs Ferry High School Students, the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Drive, Christmas Toy Drive, the Child Safety Seat Inspection Program, the Police Officer Richard White Jr Scholarship, as well as a Dobbs Ferry Little League team.
In addition, the Association supports the Dobbs Ferry Senior Center by sponsoring its annual year-end party, an evening of dining and entertainment for local senior citizens.
