Beekman Avenue was already swarming with shoppers participating in the annual holiday Stroll when the parade of a dozen fire trucks ushered in the heroes of the season, the Sleepy Hollow High School varsity football team. The boys had just completed the team’s best season since 1978, making it to the Class B state finals at “the Dome” in Syracuse.

Having won all but one of its 2025 season games decisively, the Horsemen ran into a buzz saw in its final game against a powerful Monroe team that scored all 34 of its points in the second half of the finals in Syracuse, while Sleepy Hollow came up blank.

That anomalous defeat did nothing to dampen the parade, held on Sunday, when the team, led by a dozen fire trucks, did their own stroll into town, starting at the high school and ending in front of village hall, where newly-elected mayor Marjorie Hsu read a proclamation recounting the victorious path the Horsemen followed on its way to Syracuse and proclaiming December 13th “Sleepy Hollow High School Football Team Day in the Village of Sleepy Hollow.”
