Bright lights flashed onto the windows and exterior of the Citibank building at 2 South Broadway in Tarrytown last month as a robbery was taking place inside. The robbery was a filmed scene for the new CBS Television series “FBI: Most Wanted,” which premiered in January. The lights helped illuminate the action as the filming by the crew from Universal Television, LLC took place throughout the day, both inside and outside the building.
Village police were on hand to facilitate the traffic flow through the intersection in Tarrytown’s center and also help keep pedestrians safe where sidewalks were obstructed with film production equipment. The filming inside the long-vacated building was the most activity seen within the structure since Citibank closed its Tarrytown branch in January 2016.
Flyers circulated by production employees during the week prior to the film shooting had alerted local businesses and residents about the episode, and explained Universal Television was “working in close cooperation with the Village of Tarrytown Administrator’s Office and the Police Department. It is important to us to keep the residents and businesses of Tarrytown happy and up to speed with everything so we can all have a safe, productive and happy film experience,” they stated, adding, “We will do what we can to minimize the impact of our presence on the street and surrounding area.”
While traffic was occasionally delayed and pedestrians re-routed at times, most vehicle and pedestrian movement went smoothly. Drivers accustomed to parking in the Neperan Road lot behind the bank, which was filled with equipment vans, were sent away. Half of the metered parking lot was bought by the village last year. Licenses were changed on parked cars staged along the adjacent sidewalks at the intersection to reflect the action location outside New York state.
The first episode of “FBI: Most Wanted” broadcast on CBS last month received positive reviews. The crime drama series is a spin-off of the network’s flagship drama “FBI.” It was ranked as a most-watched show. The show focuses on the division of the FBI whose mission is to track and arrest criminals on its “Most Wanted” list. Information as to when the event filmed would be broadcast was not available.
Tarrytown was compensated approximately $15,000 by the production company for the cost of police time and other requirements during the filming day, according to Village Administrator Rich Slingerland. The vacant Citibank building and the portion of the parking lot it still owns are up for sale, but as of last month no purchase has been announced.
