Robert Kimmel, a founder of The Hudson Independent and chairman emeritus of its editorial board, has been selected for induction into the Westchester County’s Senior Citizen Hall of Fame. “This year is the 38th Annual Senior Citizen Hall of Fame, one of the Department of Senior Programs and Services most empowering events,” said Mae Carpenter, Commissioner of the Westchester County Senior Citizens Hall of Fame, in announcing the recognition. “It is a time when we come together to acknowledge some of the most inspiring seniors in Westchester County and possibly in the nation. Each year we gather to say thank you to seniors, nominated by their community members, that have exemplified a true spirit of service toward those around them.”
Kimmel was selected by a panel of judges to be one of 50 deserving seniors in the Hall of Fame’s Class of 2020. He helped shape The Hudson Independent starting before its launch in February of 2006, following several decades in broadcast news, both as a producer and an on-air correspondent for the American Forces Network, CBS, ABC and their affiliates, among others. He was also a vice president for the PR firm, Hill & Knowlton and an adjunct professor of broadcast news at SUNY.
In addition to his seminal role in launching and developing The Hudson Independent, Kimmel is a member of the Rotary Club of the Tarrytowns and a fixture in the Rotary’s annual Duck Derby, for which he served as Master of Ceremonies.
The Hall of Fame ceremony will be virtual and will take place on Friday, December 4 at 11:30 a.m. on multiple platforms including the Westchester County website, Youtube, Facebook and others. County Executive George Latimer will participate in the event to congratulate the inductees and thank them for their service to Westchester and their communities. The event is free.
