Letter to the Editor:

As a lifelong environmental educator and former member of Tarrytown’s Environmental Advisory Committee, I urge readers of this paper to support Senator Pete Harckham for NY State Senate.  Pete has been endorsed by Sierra Club as well as New York League of Conservation Voters and has worked tirelessly to make New York a leader in the fight against climate change.  Pete’s opponent, Rob Astorino, joins the ranks of Republican climate deniers, incorrectly pitting jobs and economy against the environment.  Mr. Astorino has been a cheerleader for the Trump administration’s aggressive rollback of numerous environmental regulations.  By electing Pete Harckham and retaining the current Democratic State Senate, legislators will have the votes needed to pass the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act co-sponsored by Pete Harckham, and will work closely with Governor Cuomo to “build better” as we recover from the devastating impacts of COVID.  A vote for Pete Harckham will allow New York to create new green jobs, protect our drinking water supplies, protect our clean air and, not least important, protect the incredible natural resources we cherish in the Hudson Valley region.
