I’m Asking For Your Vote

Dear Rivertowns Readers and Residents:

Westchester County Legislator MaryJane Shimsky

It has been my privilege to serve the communities of Dobbs Ferry, Irvington and Hastings-on-Hudson as Westchester County Legislator since 2011. Over these six terms, I am proud to have helped preserve our parks, restore our roads and bridges, lead green-energy initiatives, codify women’s reproductive rights, and keep families safe from gun violence. My colleagues and I have taken on opioid manufacturers, expanded affordable housing, steered us through the Covid crisis and kept our kids insulated from the predatory practices of Big Tobacco.

Our river villages (including Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown), and our County as a whole, have benefited from these measures. Now I am your Democratic candidate for New York State Assembly in District 92, so that I may represent your collective interests in Albany, to advance policy that reflects Westchester’s values.

I am a lifelong environmentalist and community advocate, with a proven record of results. I’m focused on improving the lives and maintaining the dignity of all new Yorkers, whether that means standing up for marginalized populations or finding ways to effectively combat climate change that will also help our economy. It’s why I’ve earned endorsements from the Hispanic Democrats of Westchester; Working Families Party and Westchester County Democratic Committee; New York League of Conservation Voters; Tenants PAC; and New York State United Teachers, among others. My opponent, on the other hand, has no relevant experience. He merely hangs his hat on the kind of reductive rhetoric that stokes fear without proposing solutions, sowing distrust without suggesting a path toward reconnection.

This November 8, in addition to voting to keep Kathy Hochul in office as governor and re-electing Sean Patrick Maloney and Jamaal Bowman as Congressional representatives, I ask you to vote for me as your District 92 Assemblywoman on either the Democratic or Working Families Party line. Encourage everyone you know to do the same. It’s time to show up and coalesce around the candidates who will set the tone for fairness, decency and progressive action in both our state and nation’s capitals. A resounding win will send a message that we believe in a greater good and a strong democracy. Your vote is your voice, and you should exercise it in every election. That’s especially true for these midterms, which will have far- reaching consequences for generations to come.

From the moment I assume my seat in the Assembly, I will collaborate with my colleagues and represent all constituents as I have on the Westchester County Board of Legislators. Please email me at shimsky4assembly@gmail.com if you have questions, can volunteer for and support the campaign, or just to say hello. And please remember: The simplest and most powerful demonstration of your support takes place at the polls on November 8, so go out and vote.

Sincerely,

MaryJane Shimsky

Westchester County Legislator, 12th Legislative District

Democratic candidate for New York State Assembly, District 92
