Halloween Happenings Begin This Week at Lyndhurst

Halloween season kicks into high gear at Lyndhurst with multiple programs and events now through the end of October. Tour the mansion by candlelight during Lyndhurst After Dark, meet stars of the classic Dark Shadows, have your image immortalized by tintype, take selfies on our outdoor Wicked Walk, and more! Special Halloween offerings are in our gift shop and snacks are available in our carriage house café.

Evening Mansion Tours Begin October 19th
Take a 45-minute tour through Lyndhurst mansion by candlelight during the evening hours as you learn about Victorian Halloween lore and mourning traditions. See three floors of the mansion decorated in the spirit of the season with special items from our collections on display.

Tours run for two weekends, Thursday through Sunday evenings, starting October 19th. Don’t get left in the dark, tickets are selling fast! Consider coming on a Thursday evening, when tickets are most available.

Dark Shadows Weekend
October 21st and 22nd
October 21st & 22nd is Dark Shadows Weekend highlighting the cult classic movies filmed right here at Lyndhurst. Roam the mansion without a guided tour to see large photo reproductions of memorable film scenes. Sign up for our Meet and Greet with stars of the film and TV series Kathryn Leigh Scott and Marie Wallace. Unfortunately, our Cocktails at Colinwood evening event is sold out.

Visit the Welcome Center to take a picture with our 19th-century photo backdrop and browse our Dark Shadows merchandise. Refreshments will be available for purchase on-site from Geordanes of Irvington including fall treats like warm cider and doughnuts.

Halloween Weekend
October 28th and 29th
October 28th & 29th is Halloween Weekend, also a roam on your own weekend. On Friday the 27th, learn about the magic of top Halloween destinations Sleepy Hollow and Salem from J.W. Ocker, author of the bestselling Grimpendium books.
Grimpendium Book Talk
Have your one-of-a-kind tintype portraits taken by Victorian Portrait Studio on Saturday or Sunday. You’ll receive a beautiful piece of history with your image in it, get a short history lesson, and witness the process of genuine 19th-century photography. Victorian or Halloween outfits are encouraged! Advance registration is strongly recommended as appointment times sell out.

If you would like to experience the interior of Lyndhurst mansion in conjunction with your tin type portrait, please purchase tickets separately. Entry to the mansion is by timed ticket only. To make the most of your experience we recommend allowing yourself 45 minutes to explore the mansion, either before or after your photography appointment.

Wander the Wicked Walk
Spooky creatures and photo ops abound as you stroll through our Wicked Walk sponsored by Montefiore. There are multiple Halloween decorations for your selfie-taking pleasure-  perfect for kids and adults. Wander down our ADA-accessible pathway under covered archways past ghoulish ghosts and spooky skeletons making their home throughout the lower landscape.

Pop-Up Popcorn Sale Benefiting Neurodiverse Individuals 
Sunday, October 29th, 11:30am-1pm
Adults with autism and other developmental disabilities will be practicing critical life skills as they sell popcorn to visitors on our busiest day of the Halloween season. If you’ve been meaning to visit Lyndhurst, please consider doing so on the 29th. Your purchase helps create opportunities for young adults with disabilities to feel a sense of belonging while also supporting their social and vocational development.

All proceeds from popcorn sales will go directly to programs for neurodiverse individuals.

Lyndhurst is partnering with our neighbor, the Shames JCC. Their Supportive Services Programs helps those with autism and other developmental disabilities.  Also, visit our gift shop to take home a variety of treats from Popcorn for the People and The Extended Family, both area non-profits creating meaningful employment for neurodiverse adults.

Theater in the Mansion: Private Lives
November 10th-26th
Theater season kicks off next month with Private Lives by acclaimed author Noël Coward. Take a peek into the lives of a divorced couple who discover they are staying at the same hotel while honeymooning with their new spouses. What could go wrong?! Performances are produced by M&M Performing Arts and run November 10th -26th in the Grand Picture Gallery. Tickets are selling fast with select dates already sold out.
