Ukulele 101
Thursdays, May 9-23
6:00 PM

This 3-week class for teens and adults led by Elyse Schreiber will cover basic ukulele skills, including strumming, chords, and finger picking. You should be able to attend all 3 sessions. A limited number of ukuleles are available to borrow with a valid Westchester library card!

We’ll meet on Thursday May 9th, 16th, and 23rd at 6 pm in the Community Room at the Dobbs Ferry Public Library.

Virtual Program: Battle of the Books Interest Meeting
Thursday, May 30

Grades 3-11

Battle of the Books is an the annual book trivia tournament run by the Westchester Library System. Every library has its own teams and we’re looking for kids in grades 3-11 to represent Dobbs Ferry!

If you’re interested in joining and able to dedicate all of Saturday, October 26th, to the tournament, please email teens@dobbsferrylibrary.org or childrens@dobbsferrylibrary.org to get the Zoom link! We will be discussing the tournament format, the books everyone will be reading, permission slips, and more.

Grab Bag Movie Memorial Day Special: “Windtalkers”

Did You Find the Little Lending Library?

This miniature by May Burnett is hidden somewhere in the Library and contains tiny books that you can take home on a take one/leave one system. Once you find it, come back to the front desk and ask for the Book Making Box!

Paws for Reading with Buddy
Saturday, May 11, 12:00 – 1:00 PM
Children read one-on-one with Buddy, a specially trained Reading Education Assistance Dog (R.E.A.D.) and his handler, Dobbs Ferry resident Marty Kanengiser. Children will select a book to read to Buddy before the program begins, and they will spend 10-15 minutes reading aloud. They are also welcome to ask questions about Buddy, a 12-year-old rescued black lab who loves children, other dogs, and reading.

Board Games with the Director

It’s Game Night at the Library! Come and play new games with your friends or make friends new here. You can bring your own games to enjoy. Bring your own beverages and snacks.

Improv Showcase
Saturday, June 8, 3:00 – 5:00 PM

Featuring players from Improv Innovations’ Inter-generational Troupe. Audience Participation encouraged. Directed by Ellen Flaks. Theater Games, Improv Sketches — Bake Sale and Reception to Follow!

Nintendo Switch Drop in Hours
Fridays, 3:00 – 5:00 PM

Visit the community room on Friday afternoons and play any of the wide selection of single and multi-player games on the library’s Switch! Just drop in or email teens@dobbsferrylibrary.org to reserve your time slot. Time will be limited to 20 minutes when people are waiting.

Want to make a difference in your community and get volunteer credit hours? Apply to become a member of TAG at DFPL! We’ll meet monthly to discuss your ideas, work on projects to improve the library and its services, and have pizza. Sign up here!

Dungeons & Dragons (Program Full — Waitlist Only)
Wednesdays or Thursdays, 4:00 – 6:00 PM
Ages 8-18
Create a character! Fight monsters! Make your own luck! Develop your skills in this fantasy role-playing system with other kids just like you.
Each player will only attend once a week on either Wednesday or Thursday; your slot will be assigned by the library based on your availability, experience, and other factors. The club is spread across two days to accommodate as many members as possible and follows the Dobbs Ferry Schools calendar for vacations and days off. Please only sign up if you think you can attend most of the meetings.
Registration is required via this Google form. You are not registered until a librarian contacts you with confirmation and scheduling details. This program is full, but you can still sign up for the waitlist.
Questions? Participants aged 8-12 can email children’s librarian Gina at childrens@dobbsferrylibrary.org, and participants aged 13-18 can email teen librarian Alex at teens@dobbsferrylibrary.org.
