Ed Midgley died on 26 February, 2023 at the age of 86.
Ed was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and attended the Riverdale Country School, Class of 1954. He spent many happy summers at Camp Dudley in Westport, N.Y.. Ed graduated from Princeton University in 1958. ROTC at Princeton, led to his service as a Naval Intelligence Officer in Japan, and afterwards the Naval reserves. Upon his return, Ed earned a graduate degree from Harvard Business School in 1962.
Ed had a long and accomplished career at Kidder, Peabody and Company, beginning in 1962. During that time, he served on the boards of CUNO, Amoskeag and Fieldcrest Cannon. Ed served as co chair of Investment Banking at Kidder before retiring in 2002.
Ed was an active community member. He was chairman of the Tarrytown School board, a board member of Abbot House, longtime board member and chairman of Phelps Memorial Hospital.
A lifelong runner, Ed competed in the New York City Marathon in 1982. He was an ACBL life master in bridge, and a founder of the Ardsley Duplicate Bridge Club. Ed loved traveling, golf, cigars, and Oklahoma Sooners Football. He adored his dogs.
Ed is survived by his wife of 38 years, Laura, his children Ned (Margaret), David (Laura),Susan Komosa (Chris), Leslie Allen (Rob), Christie Allen (Jamey), Herbert Allen (Monica), Charlie Allen (Kristin), 20 grandchildren and his brother, Frank.
A memorial service will be held on 11 March at 1pm at the Church of St. Barnabas in Irvington, N.Y.. in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church of St. Barnabas or a charity of your choice.
