Carmela (Cornacchia) Legnini

Carmela Legnini, a longtime resident of Sleepy Hollow died peacefully on June 21, 2023 at the age of 93.

Born in the Bronx on December 15, 1929, she was the daughter of Pietro and Teresina (Squillante) Cornacchia. Carmela went on to have a long career as a teacher. She began teaching in the Yonkers Public Schools prior to taking a position with the Tarrytown Schools. She had been retired after teaching for many years in the Morse School in Sleepy Hollow.

Carmela married Nicholas Legnini in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in the Bronx and they had been married for 63 years when he predeceased her in 2017.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Clara Imbarrato and 10 nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Friday from 4PM to 8PM. Her Funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 10:00 at St. John Paul, II Church in Sleepy Hollow followed by entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
