Bands, Beers, Burgers: Winter Blues Fest Returns to Tarrytown
by Zoe Kaplan
Get rid of your winter blues with the 3rd annual Winter Blues Fest, coming to Tarrytown on January 9. From 7 p.m. to midnight at the Hudson Harbor Space, community members can enjoy bands, beers (thanks to an open bar), and burgers, all while benefiting the Sleepy Hollow Performing Arts Boosters.
This year the event will showcase bands of all ages, including the Sleepy Hollow High School teacher band “Losing Our Faculties.” Along with the live local music will be a 50/50 raffle and a small silent auction of donated art, jewelry, and gift baskets. Anna Brabazon will cater appetizers.
In 2013, the Sleepy Hollow Performing Arts Boosters committee started this event in order to raise money for the Boosters and create an opportunity for a fun night showcasing local musicians. Committee member Mary Kohrherr stated that this event is especially important because it “recognizes all of the talent in our community, not only with current students but also alumni, adults, and teachers in the district.”
Last year the event raised $14,000 for the Sleepy Hollow Middle and High School Performing Arts Boosters. Funds went to students of both schools who wished to attend music competitions: last year high school students took a four-day trip to Virginia to compete, and middle school students enjoyed their annual competitive day trip. Also, many students received new instruments and supplies for their music classes. Furthermore, money attributed to set, tech, and costume development for drama and musical productions in the school.
Tickets are $75 in advance and $100 at the door. For more information email: sleepyhollowperformingarts@gmail.com.
