April 25, 2023

Anna Sofia Rocco, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2023. She was born on March 28, 1947, in Cicciano, Italy, and emigrated to the United States in 1954 with her family. Sofia’s adventurous spirit led her back to Italy at the age of 19, where she met the love of her life, Michael Rocco. The couple married in January 1967 and wasted no time starting a family.

Sofia worked alongside her husband, Michael, in the kitchen of his pizzeria for many years, bringing warmth and love to the establishment. She was a proud and devoted mother to three children and twelve grandchildren, who were the center of her world. Her heart was never fully mended after the passing of her dear husband, Michael, in 2014, but her love for her family remained strong.

Sofia was known for her talents in knitting blankets and hats, keeping a spotless home in Greenwich, CT, and cooking mouthwatering dishes like her famous banana bread, chocolate chip cookies, and cold seafood salad, which was a cherished tradition at family gatherings each Christmas Eve. Sofia also had a passion for tending to her vegetable and herb garden, sharing her harvest with loved ones.

A devout Catholic, Sofia attended mass regularly at St. Michael’s in Greenwich. She cherished her daily phone calls with her older brother, Michael. She was predeceased by her younger brother Anthony, who will now welcome her in the afterlife.

Sofia’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, whether in a group or one-on-one, and she will be remembered for the special moments they shared together. Her generosity was legendary, no grandchild ever left her home without a crisp $100 bill pressed firmly into his or her hand. Her toy poodle, Roxy, was a constant source of love and companionship and will miss her dearly.

Sofia’s guilty pleasures included shopping trips to Costco and bringing home a fried chicken meal from Popeye’s. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on through the love and memories she leaves behind.

Anna Sofia Rocco is survived by her children, Joseph & Lorenza Rocco, Michael & Grace Rocco, and Frank & Desiree Rocco, as well as her twelve grandchildren; Joseph, Lorenzo, Michael, Sofia, Michael, Serafim, Alexander, Cristina, Michael, Louis, Chloe, and Giada. The Rocco family will keep Sofia’s memory alive through the love and traditions she instilled in them. May she rest in peace, reunited with her beloved Michael in eternal love.
