Irvington High School graduate Lexi Martins, a junior at Lehigh University, tied for second in rebounds in the nation this year among all NCAA Division 1 female athletes.
The all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Irvington before graduating in 2013, Martins pulled down 13.6 rebounds per game for Lehigh. Last year, she was named All-Patriot League, Academic All-Patriot League and earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Tournament team.
“Lexi is a product of excellence in the classroom and in the athletic arena,” said Gina Maher, Martins’ former Irvington High coach who led the Lady Bulldogs to a 105-6 record during Martins’ four high school seasons. “Rebounding is more than talent; it takes great drive and reflects a commitment to the team concept.”
Martins earned the distinction of New York State Scholar/Athlete all four years at Irvington High and was runner-up for Miss Basketball in New York State during her senior year.
