St. Clair Marshall, 96
St. Clair M. Marshall, a resident of Sleepy Hollow, died July 24. He was 96.
He was born in 1918 in St. George, SC, to St. Clair and Pritchard (Shuler) Muckenfuss. He attended University of South Carolina and USC School of Law. He had a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy during WWII, serving in the Pacific aboard the USS Swift Arrow; later in the Port Director’s Office in Shanghai after the war.
Mr. Marshall moved to New York City to attend Columbia Business School, and worked for Price Waterhouse, NBC, and as a Vice President of North American Philips, a position he held until his retirement. While at Philips, he was acting president of Chapel Music, and was involved in the management of several folk rock acts.
He married MaryAnn Suske in 1961 and had four children: John (Meredith) of New York, NY; David (Treeah) of Hawaii; James (Amber) of Lake Hopatcong, NJ; Mary Elisabeth (Stephen) of Jersey City, NJ; and eight grandchildren. He leaves a brother, William Muckenfuss, and a sister, Rachel Barnes.
He loved his family, popular music of all genres, and ballroom dancing.
Barbara Ann Burnette, 80
Barbara Ann Burnette, a lifelong resident of Tarrytown, died July 16, at Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt after enduring a long illness. She was 80.
She attended North Carolina Central University where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in English with high honors. She later moved to Tarrytown, and married William N. Burnette. Their union lasted more than 56 years until her passing. She worked as an educator for the Irvington House and Abbott School, in Irvington, until she retired in 1994. She was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Church of the Tarrytowns throughout her lifetime. She had an exceptionally kind, loving and generous spirit with all whom she encountered.
Thomas Pollack, 65
Thomas Pollack, of Lansing, Michigan, formerly of Tarrytown, died peacefully July 16. He was 65.
He was born on September 15, 1949 in Tarrytown, and graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from SUNY Geneseo. He worked for various television stations around the country as a Master Control Operator and Video Editor. He then volunteered for many of the local Lansing festivals.
Arthur Hernen, 88
Arthur Hernen, a long time Irvington resident, died July 9. He was 88.
He was born in New York to Thomas and Mary Hernen. He was a printer by trade and worked for the New York Police Department in the printing department for many years. He was predeceased by his wife Mary on April 13, 2014.
