Second Annual SH Sprint Triathlon Set for June
The second annual Sleepy Hollow Sprint Triathlon is scheduled to take place Sunday, June 13, beginning at 8 a.m. The scenic course includes a half-mile swim off Kingsland Point Park beach, a 10-mile bike ride through Philipse Manor, Sleepy Hollow and Mount Pleasant, and a three-mile run along the shores of the Hudson River in Kingsland Point Park, including a loop around the historic Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse.
Last year’s event drew close to 300 competitors and raised approximately $45,000 for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Westchester/Hudson Valley Chapter.
“We would like to exceed that,” said Veronica Skrelja of Sleepy Hollow Physical Therapy, the creators of the event. “Increasing the numbers would be great.”
The oldest participant in this year’s race so far is 73-year-old Sister John Agnes Clancy, a Dominican Sister from Ardsley and former patient of Sleepy Hollow Physical Therapy. This is her first competition since rotator cuff surgery and she’s being heavily supported by her students at Maria Regina High School.
Awards are given in each male and female age groups. Entry fee is $100 for individuals and $150 for relay teams. For more information, contact Skrelja at 631-6969 or visit www.sleepyhollowsprint.com.
