Day Boat Café to Open in Irvington

Irvington’s Day Boat Café will open in early March at One Bridge Street, the location previously occupied by restaurant One. “We are still working on the menu,” said chef and co-owner John Durkin “but our signature dish will be a lobster roll and the menu will include Montauk stripped bass, grilled salmon, seafood stew, lobster pot pie, lobster ravioli and three kinds of chowder—New England, Manhattan, and corn and lobster.” For non-seafood lovers, Day Boat Café will offer hamburgers, flank steak and buttermilk fried chicken. Beverages will include homemade iced tea and homemade lemonade. Durkin’s partners in the new venture include Gus Panopoulos, Gus’s brother Russ who owns Frankie & Johnnie’s in Manhattan, and his sister Jennifer and her husband Vas Mylonas, the owners of Frankie & Johnnie’s in Rye. Daniel Kim, formerly with Jean Georges in Manhattan, will act as general manager of Day Boat Café.

The restaurant will have a nautical décor to include ship lights, a massive oar-lined ceiling sculpture, and wooden tables. “In keeping with the casual look we want to present, said Gus Panopoulos, “the wait staff will wear black polo shirts with our logo, blue jeans and black Converse sneakers.” The ownership group also plans to open a second Day Boat Café in Roslyn, Long Island in June 2010.
