Local Venues For Live Music and Entertainment
March is a perfect month to enjoy music and song without having to travel very far. The Tarrytown Music Hall is offering concerts for lovers of rock, country and blues, classic soul, and Latin jazz, along with a performance by the Westchester Symphonic Winds; the legendary singer Jack Jones will turn back time at the Westchester Broadway Theatre on March 1, and the Castle in Tarrytown will continue its Cabaret at the Castle series on March 28 with an appearance by Broadway’s Ragtime star Quentin Darrington.

Not to be overlooked are the homegrown bands gaining popularity and earning respect at restaurants and clubs in our region. The five-man Cover-Up Band, celebrating ten years of entertaining with 1960’s to 1980’s rock and roll, Motown favorites and danceable music, will be the main attraction at the Hudson Water Club in West Haverstraw on March 5 at 9:30 p.m. Call (845) 271-4046. The Cover-Up Band will also play at Pete’s Saloon in Elmsford on March 12 at 10 p.m.
A band called ETA will combine swing, Motown, jazz and ballads at Harry’s of Hartsdale on March 11 and return on March 25. Call 472-8777. It is also booked at Half Moon in Dobbs Ferry on March 26. Call 693-4130.
Singer/song writer/acoustic guitarist David W. Jacobsen will appear at the Black Cat Café in Irvington on Saturday, March 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. Jacobsen’s repertoire ranges from songs, funny and cynical, to tales of unrequited love. Call 231-9060.
J.P. Doyle’s in Sleepy Hollow has hired two musical groups to help welcome St. Patrick’s Day Parade spectators on Sunday afternoon March 14. Cousins Moran will perform at 3:00 p.m., and the Bergen County Pipes and Drums will perform later that day. Irish dancing is on the agenda as well. Call 631-3015.
Kevin O’Donoghue will bring the Joe Taino Trio to O’Donoghue’s in Nyack for a night of classic rock and blues on March 20 at 10:30 p.m. Taino plays the guitar, Art Franzo will be on bass and George Morales is the drummer. Call (845) 358-0180.

In Hastings on the Hudson, Thursday is live band night at Harvest-on-Hudson (affectionately known as “adult swim” night). Specialty drinks cost only $5 in the bar and lounge area; small bites are passed around from 7 to 10 p.m. Call 693-4130.
Easy-to-listen-to jazz is a longstanding Wednesday night tradition at Red Hat on the River in Irvington. Beginning at 6 p.m., vocalist Glenda Davenport accompanied by bassist Bull Crow and Hiroshi Tamazaki on keyboard will perform in the downstairs dining room. Call 591-5888.
