Turkey and All the Trimmings

Wine appreciation classes will be held at Chutney Masala in Irvington on November 10 (Chardonnay) and December 1 (Cabernet Sauvignon) by Andrea Kish and Tony Russo, owners of Aries Wines in White Plains. The classes will cover grape origin, wine making style, wine service, storage, and pairing with foods. Accompanying tasting plates from Chef Navjot Arora’s kitchen will feature Indian appetizers that demonstrate compatible coupling of food with wine. Mild cheeses and crackers will be served as palate cleansers. Class registration and food sampling fees apply.

The sessions are part of a “Meet the Chefs” program conducted by Inter-Village Continuing Education, a non-profit educational organization operating under the auspices of the Hastings, Dobbs Ferry, Ardsley and Irvington school districts. Spoken Interludes director Delaune Michel, an Irvington resident, will host author readings from newly published works at Chutney Masala on November 16. Participating writers include Gregg Hurwitz reading passages from “Trust No One,” Mary Gordon who will read from “Regarding Jesus,” and Justin Fox who will read from “The Myth of the Rational Market: A History of Risk, Reward, and Delusion on Wall Street.” The $25 cost of admission includes readings and buffet dinner. Buffet dishes vary from program to program and typically include such Indian favorites as Chicken Tikka Masala, lamb curry, coconut infused shrimp, veggie fritters and chickpea stew. The buffet table opens at 6 p.m., readings commence at 7:30 p.m. and book signing begins at 8:45 p.m. Parking is free and plentiful. Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card. A fall/winter early-bird dinner special is again offered by Santa Fe in Tarrytown. Patrons who arrive from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and order dinner before 6:30 p.m. will receive a 50 percent discount on a second dinner of equal or lesser value. A three-course, prix-fixe Thanksgiving Day dinner will be served on Thursday, November 26 at Red Hat on the River in Irvington from 1 to 7 p.m. Roast organic turkey will be accompanied by sausage, dried-fruit and pine-nut stuffing, traditional gravy, cranberry sauce, sweet potato and haricots verts; alternate entrees to turkey will include grilled Scottish salmon, pork chop and house-made ravioli . On Thanksgiving Day, the Westchester Marriott in Tarrytown will serve its traditional holiday feast starting at 1 p.m. The cost is $35 for adults and $15 for youngsters, age 6-12. No charge for children 5 or under. Call 333-1216.
