Margaret Jones, 85

Margaret E. Jones, a resident of Irvington, died August 25. She was 85. Born in Manhattan, she was a member of the Irvington Senior Citizens.

Hilda Brunt, 83

Hilda Elaine Brunt, a Tarrytown native, died August 21. She was 83. She developed a passion for horses as a child, which led her to become a riding instructor at Sleepy Hollow Country Club. She was a member of the Holy Innocents Anglican Church in Briarcliff Manor.

John Schwer, 75


John Paul Schwer, a long time resident of Ossining and former Tarrytown resident, died September 11. He was 75. Born in Tarrytown, he graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School and served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was an electrician and a master mason.

Martha M. Evans, a resident of Tarrytown, died September 10. She was 92. She was a dressmaker and a talented artist and poet. While in her 60s she graduated from Westchester Community College

Paul Steinberg, 45


Paul Steinberg, a long time member of the Tarrytown and Irvington communities, died September 5 after a long struggle with cancer. He was 45. Mr. Steinberg lived in Tarrytown for most of his life, and graduated from Irvington High School. He was active in Jewish causes and youth groups as a teenager, serving as song leader for NFTY, Camps Kutz and Eisner. He was a very active member of the community, serving on the Tarryhill Homeowners Association board and the Board of Trustees for his synagogue Temple Beth Abraham. He was also active at the Irvington Town Hall Theater, where he was the photographer.

William Demersky, 67

William Demersky, a resident of Irvington, died August 27. He was 67. A retired Irvington police officer, he enjoyed golf, travel and bowling, especially at Scrappy’s and his times spent at the Washington Irving Boat Club.
