Filming in Irvington, NY
Film crews and equipment lined up in front of Village Hall —Barrett Seaman photo

Dreamworks Studio’s The Girl on the Train that has been filming in Irvington since early November, and will continue into January. But, filming reached its zenith in mid-December, when crews descended upon several locations in the village at once. In front of Village Hall, which will appear in the film as the Ardsley Police Station, a platoon of equipment trucks and mobile food stations clogged sidewalk traffic and commandeered valuable parking space along Main Street. The village library on Astor Street was closed for the day while crews worked there. The normally tranquil stretch of Harriman Road past the reservoir was also lined with trucks, as a critical scene involving dastardly deeds was filmed among the pines of the Irvington Woods. The parish hall of the Church of St. Barnabas was transformed into a wardrobe storage facility (not inappropriate for a space that hosts an annual clothing sale).

Curious onlookers wandered amongst grips and gaffers, some hoping for a cameo appearance. The village administrator and building inspector and their staffs huddled at makeshift desks in the downstairs trustee meeting room and courthouse.

Food seemed to be everywhere: catering trucks with exotic cuisines, outdoor grills and tables stacked with condiments. There were, after all, more than 100 mouths to feed. Alas, there were few reported sightings of the film’s stars: Emily Blunt, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans or Lisa Kudrow. They were spirited in and out of town in luxury vans and kept mostly under wraps in well-appointed dressing vans.
Locals will get to see them—and perhaps a few of their own—when the film is released next Ocotber 7th.
